Computer algorithms, procedures or formulas for solving a problem or carrying out a task, have become an increasingly important tool for analysing large amounts of data.
A report by the Government Chief Data Steward and the Government Chief Digital Officer provides valuable insights into the use of algorithms by government agencies.
This report finds that while agencies are applying a range of safeguards and assurance processes in relation to the use of their algorithms, there are also opportunities for increased collaboration and sharing of good practice across government. There's also scope to ensure that all of the information that's published explains, in clear and simple terms, how algorithms are informing decisions that affect people in significant ways.
