About the Digital Public Service Hui
The Hui was an opportunity for senior digital leaders from across New Zealand government to share their contributions to digital government and learn from their peers.
Theme for 2021: Innovate. Collaborate. Accelerate.
On 26 August 2021, the Digital Public Service branch and the Public Service Commission presented the Hui to accelerate citizen-centric government in New Zealand.
Welcome page on an orange background. Five people are next to each other in a row while happily looking at a presentation on their digital devices (for example, mobiles, laptops and tablets). There is white text at the top of the screen, stating: ‘The Digital Public Service Virtual Hui — August 26, 2021’.
White text introduces the speaker, Melissa Clark-Reynolds, as ‘Event facilitator and MC (master of ceremonies)’. Melissa is seated in a room. Behind the speaker are bookshelves and 2 display boards with Post-it® notes.
Melissa: Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou, my name is Melissa Clark-Reynolds.
I’m a digital strategist, a professional company director and I work as a foresight practitioner, which is the same as a futurist.
I am so excited to be facilitating the inaugural Digital Public Service Hui, hosted by the Government Chief Digital Officer and supported by the Digital Public Service.
This Hui is to connect digital leaders to each other, and to figure out how to collaborate and work smarter to accelerate digital services and digital ways of working right across the government sector.
It excites me that as a citizen I might have the same experience in engaging with government that I can have with many private sector organisations — to be honest, I think you can probably do it even better.
Sometimes people confuse digital and IT. Digital goes so much further, bringing together digital mindsets, ways of working, skills and technology together that will make a real difference.
And good digital strategies put user experience and customer needs at the centre, and I would love to see the New Zealand government do even better at this.
This hui is all about building on the success of others. Sometimes we think we have to build everything ourselves, but I truly believe we are in the age of integration and not invention.
So please join the hui on 26 August at 13:00 hours online via Zoom.

We focused on the direction and momentum of the Strategy for a Digital Public Service while supporting the Digital Strategy for Aotearoa. Discussing how we can strengthen our work for New Zealanders was front and centre.
We recorded the 3 keynote speeches given at the Digital Public Service Hui. You can watch, read or listen to them.
