New Zealand’s digital economy a ‘standout among standouts’

The 2017 Digital Planet report, produced by The Fletcher School at Tufts University, places New Zealand among the world’s digital elites — along with Singapore and the United Arab Emirates — with high levels of digital development and a fast rate of digital evolution.

The report ranked 60 countries on their digital competitiveness and market potential for further digital economic growth. It tracks the progress countries have made since the first report in 2014 in developing their digital economies and integrating connectivity.

This is the second time Fletcher School have identified New Zealand as a standout nation in their Digital Evolution Index. Our strong digital economy was attributed to a positive combination of infrastructure, incubating start-ups, a cultural commitment to innovation, and government support.

Fletcher School has been keeping a close eye on New Zealand because of our role as Chair of the D5 group of digitally advanced nations. They will be doing a case study about our digital approach, which will further put the spotlight on New Zealand's digital transformation.
