GCDO grants first certification of Public Cloud Data Centres

CDC’s Silverdale and Hobsonville campuses in Auckland are home to New Zealand’s first GCDO certified Public Cloud Data Centres.

The New Zealand Government has reached a significant milestone with the first certification of a Public Cloud Data Centre.

This certification, led by the Government Chief Digital Office (GCDO), marks a crucial step in improving the security and efficiency of government cloud services.

The PCDC Certification

The Public Cloud Data Centre Certification (PCDCC) initiative provides a standardised and consistent security assessment of NZ’s onshore Public Cloud Data Centres.

The certification of CDC Data Centres New Zealand Limited (CDC) facilities in Auckland demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing digital public infrastructure and supporting the transition of government systems into the cloud.

Supporting government Cloud First policy

This milestone supports the GCDO’s digital transformation goals. It provides New Zealand government agencies and organisations with confidence that Public Cloud Data Centres:

  • meet their security obligations
  • reduce ownership, control, and supply chain risks.

PCDCC — benefits and eligibility

It also streamlines the certification and accreditation processes for providers, reducing the effort required to meet agency certification requests.

This initiative aligns with the New Zealand Government’s Cloud First policy, which requires government agencies and organisations to adopt public cloud services in preference to traditional ICT systems.
