Accelerate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to leverage its transformative power to improve public services for New Zealanders.

The Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) provides AI system leadership for the public sector, which includes providing guidance, stewarding agency uptake, and working with providers to access AI services.

How’s it going?

The GCDO is exploring the use of AI and supporting agencies to deploy AI safely and responsibly.

The GCDO has an ambitious work plan underway. This includes the Public Service AI Framework and the Responsible AI Guidance for the Public Service: GenAI that were published in .

What’s next?

The GCDO will continue to build out an AI Toolkit for the public service over time. The toolkit is a free government resource where any user can find practical and easy-to-use guidance, templates and resources.
