What’s the plan?

Information and services that meet established standards help maintain a consistently high-quality experience for users of digital government services. Using standards makes information and services:

  • accessible and easy to use
  • secure, private and trustworthy.

The Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) provides standards and guidance for government agencies and technology partners building and delivering government digital information, products and services.

How’s it going?

The Information Sharing Standard guidance and templates are now available for use.

The Web Standards were updated in to include stronger and clearer accessibility and customer experience requirements.

The digital workforce guidance was published in July 2025 to provide support to agencies in building the digital capability of their workforce.

A review of the API guidelines is underway to make sure that they’re fit for purpose and meet agencies’ needs.

What’s next?

Refreshing the Digital Service Design Standard to guide agencies and third parties to deliver improved and consistent digital customer service experiences. The new standard is planned to be launched .

Working to replace the Web Standards with the Digital Accessibility Standard. The new standard will go further and apply to more than just websites. It will also apply to native mobile apps and documents such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF.
